Stand In

2002

The Stand-in Project was an interactive performance based around the process of hiring a professional actress to endure a twenty-four hour performance as Milton. Researched in all aspects of Milton’s life, the actress lived in Milton’s home, attended her classes and attempted to participate in all aspects of Milton’s social, professional and psychological life.

During the “replacement”, Milton remained in enforced isolation at a local motel, attempting to disassociate from her own identity. Upon leaving the motel, Milton photographed all evidence of her presence in the space. The included photograph and a small number of unplanned snapshots form the core documentation of the project.
