Elizabeth Taylor Impersonators
2012
Elizabeth Taylor Impersonators is a digital print of a series of hand-drawn pastel portraits that investigate questions of authenticity, amatuerism and the immortalizing nature of portraiture. Drawn under the direction of a “professional” portrait artist (who works outside of the domain of contemporary art), the work attempts to challenge cultural hierarchies and humorously play with notions of accuracy and failure in drawing. Reference photographs for each impersonator were discovered on the internet as part of each performer’s publicity profile.
