Rerun
2011
Rerun is a site specific video performance that took place at what was at the time, the newly renovated Waldorf Hotel in Vancouver. Exploring the contradictory desire for historical re-enactment and perpetual renovation, the work utilizes staging and props to explore the commodification of cultural memory. Limited by the confining frame of the camera and the hours in which daylight turns to sundown, Milton performed a process of set building and character immersion that emphasized the act of packing up and unpacking, constructing and deconstructing. All performance props were carefully selected from thrift stores (located in the vicinity of the Waldorf) and family members/ former patrons of the hotel (familiar with the space during the 1950s and 60s).
