Tears of an Icon

Tears of an Icon is a digital collage that explores the fetishization of female sorrow and the camp devotion to expression by combining found photographs of Judy Garland with tabloid images of weeping Virgin Mary statues. Isolating the tear-filled eyes of the two figures, the work explores the slippage between starlet, religious figure and inanimate object.
